Aid to Tibet

Aid to Tibet
The programme ‘Aid to Tibet’ is aimed at empowering Tibetans in their own homeland. Since 1992 the Foundation has been working inside Tibet to help the local people with the full cooperation of the authorities.
Working with ethnic Tibetan staff, a regional representative of the Foundation and no intermediaries, we are able to directly reach some of the most needy people and in the remotest areas of Tibet. The Foundation’s contribution is greatly appreciated by the people and well acknowledged by the relevant authorities at various levels of government.
Education, Healthcare and Development
‘Aid to Tibet’ runs three types of projects covering education, healthcare and development, and which represent the greatest needs of the Tibetan people and the most practical way to support them to become self-reliant. Under these categories we have various projects: sponsorship of children’s school education, care for the elderly in old people’s homes, training of healthcare workers in hospitals and clinics, and other programmes for the realistic and sustainable development of the Tibetan way of life and culture in a rapidly changing world.
Tibet Foundation has been one of the first Tibetan charities in the West to provide emergency relief aid to the Tibetans in Tibet. We have given assistance following natural disasters, including the snow storm in Serchul in the winter of 1995 and the earthquake in Yushu in April 2010.
Our aid programmes in Tibet are managed by local Tibetan staff together with our field officer, Mr Sonam Wangchuk, based in Kandze in the Kandze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan Province.
